General
Flexjoint is a passive
fire, acoustic and cold smoke sealing system for all kinds of gaps
and joints including movement, expansion and contraction joints.
It can also form part of specialised systems to address the typical
3 axis movement that occurs in the event of seismic shock. Gaps
and joints created during construction tend to be uneven in width
and the formation of a weather resistant fire, gas and cold smoke
tight seal using conventional materials can prove a fruitless task.
Flexijoint has been designed
to overcome these problems. The Flexjoint system consists of a composite
layer of special ceramic fibre blanket and aluminium foil enclosed
in a proofed glass fibre outer cover which is bonded with fire resistant
adhesive.
Available in lengths of
7.32 metres in roll form the Flexjoint system is easily and quickly
installed with minimum jointing ensuring a non combustible fire
rated gas tight and cold smoke seal.
Flexjoint is designed to cater for 100% movement and when installed
in 'W' form rather than the standard V form can cope with 3 axis
movement found during a seismic shock.
Applications
The versatility of the Flexjoint system allows it to be used in
a wide variety of internal and external applications in both new
build and refurbishment.
- Floor separation fire/movement joint
- Fire seal to wall cavities
- Junction of compartment wall/floor or structural soffit
- Joint at wall heads
- Joint between cladding and floor
- Seismic movement joint.
Description
Flexjoint is a composite
assembly of ceramic fibre blanket and aluminium foil enclosed in
a proofed glass fibre textile outer cover which is bonded with fire
resistant adhesive. Flexjoint is installed in gaps in a U form with
the outer faces of the legs of the U being bonded to the structure
with Firecote Adhesive - Tayfire's halogen free fire resistant ablative
adhesive.
Dimensions
Flexjoint is manufactured
in lengths of 7.32m and in varying thicknesses. Widths of 200mm,
300mm and 400mm are available. Appropriate sizes for joint gaps

FLEXJOINT ADHESIVE - COVERAGE
5LM PER 1L TO GIVE 2 HOURS FIRE RATING
2LM PER 1L TO GIVE 4 HOURS FIRE RATING
Sitework
Flexjoint is designed
for quick and easy installation either by non specialist or Tayfire's
specialist installers. The manufactured length of Flexjoint (7.32m)
optimises ease of site handling with reduced need for butt jointing
thus providing for major savings in installation costs.
Due to its weather resistance
capacities, installation can be made at any time during the construction
process with, especially in the case of refurbishment work, the
minimum disruption to other trades.
Performance
The U form assembly and the Firecote Adhesive combine to produce
a seal of up to 4 hours rating:
- single 'U' form - Fire rating 2 hours
- pair of 'U' forms - Fire rating 4 hours
Installation
Simply form the Flexjoint assembly into a Uform and butter the
outer surfaces with Firecote Adhesive to a dry film thickness (d.f.t.)
of 1 mm. Then push the Flexjoint seal into the jointensuring that
the assembly is fully home into the gap.
Flexjoint should be installed using approximately 1 litre of Flexjoint
Adhesive to every 5 metre length of Flexjoint. The Firecote Adhesive
is used to butt joint the Flexjoint assembly at the same rate ofcoverage.
For aesthetic purposes the Flexjoint assembly can be utilised as
caulking for non fire rated specialist mastics or sealant.
Supply
Both Flexjoint and Firecote Adhesive can be supplied direct to
contractors who will install in accordance with Tayfire (International)
Ltd. guidelines, or may be installed as part of a supply and install
service arranged by Tayfire (International) Ltd.
Authority
Flexjoint is manufactured under BS 5750 "Quality Systems"
' Fire integrity for up to 4 hours has been fully tested to BS 476:
part 22: 1987 "Methods of determination of the fire resistance
of non loadbearing elements of construction".
Services
Tayfire (International) Ltd. offer a full technical advisory and
fire stopping design service.
